Most of you know I am now a (grown-up?) nurse. I work in a tertiary neonatal intensive care unit which means very early premies (23 weeks & over), congenital disorders/diseases, & babies born with disorders/disease passed maternally (substance abuse, diabetes, viruses, etc). 1) Last clinical shift finished as of 0700 this morning. Then I had to drive to school to prep for a presentation at noon (the presentation is at 1445, but the class starts at noon). So right now, I've been up for 17 hours & won't be able to sleep for another 7 hours at least. 'Sokay; I'll make it up by sleeping for 24 hours straight.

The first night shift always sucks, even if I'm doing nothing but night shifts this week. By night shifts, I mean 7pm-7am and yes there are breaks but re-training your internal clock for 3 days (nights?) is not easy. This is what I'm supposed to do to ensure adequate sleep ( Read more... )
